In Tanach, innumerable Jewish leaders are killed. Yet, between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, during these auspicious days, we have a fast day to remember the yahrzeit, the killing of, Gedaliah. What was unique about Gedaliah? The answer is, many things. This includes that Gedaliah was killed soon after the destruction of the first Bais HaMikdash. i.e. The killing of Gedaliah is connected to the destruction of the Bais HaMikdash. You may think that the Fast of Gedaliah should be connected to Tisha b’Av. And it is. But the chochomim are also making a connection between the destruction of the Bais HaMikdash and Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. We need to be reminded, both individually and as a nation, that our behaviors have enormous consequences. And, more specifically, our behaviors as they relate to other people.
